Maine Faces Historic Storm: Thousands Without Power, Evacuations Ordered

Maine's largest electric utilities, Central Maine Power and Versant, estimate that it could take until Christmas to restore power to the hardest-hit areas after a destructive storm on Monday. Restoration efforts are expected to continue through the end of the week, with some interior parts of the state facing longer restoration timelines due to heavy flooding. As of Tuesday afternoon, over 262,000 customers were without power in central and southern Maine, while approximately 80,000 customers remained without power in eastern and northern Maine. Utility companies are prioritizing repairs at substations and removing debris and trees from power lines, with hundreds of personnel and additional workers from other states and Canada being brought in to assist.
