U.S. Navy Sailor Deaths in Red Sea Incidents

The U.S. Navy has identified Aviation Machinist's Mate 2nd Class Oriola Michael Aregbesola as the sailor who went overboard from the USS Mason in the Red Sea. Aregbesola, a 34-year-old Florida resident, joined the Navy in July 2020 and was assigned to the "Swamp Foxes" of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 74. His death, resulting from a non-combat-related incident, is under investigation. The incident occurred amid President Biden's deployment of the U.S. Navy to the Red Sea in response to Houthi rebels' attacks on commercial ships in solidarity with Hamas.
