Suspect Charged in Loyola Student’s Rogers Park Lakefront Killing

Jose Medina, 25, was charged with murder, one count of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon in the fatal shooting of Loyola University Chicago freshman Sheridan Gorman on the Tobey Prinz Beach pier in Rogers Park. Police say Medina, a Venezuelan national, was apprehended by Border Patrol in 2023 and is the subject of an immigration detainer; he is due in court Monday as detectives continue to investigate the case. Gorman’s death shocked Loyola’s community and relatives, who attended vigils and sought accountability.
