Rogers Park Ward Office Closes Amid Violent Threats After Loyola Killing

Rogers Park’s ward office of Ald. Maria Hadden will be closed to in-person business for the rest of the week and Friday after she and her staff received threats of violence—including racist, misogynistic and homophobic messages—following her remarks about Loyola University Chicago student Sheridan Gorman’s killing. Hadden said she was trying to share information quickly and apologized for mischaracterizations of her comments, noting the office will operate remotely to keep staff safe. The move followed a protest outside the office by Chicago Flips Red and counter protesters; police reported one simple assault at the demonstration. Gorman, 18, was killed near Tobey Prinz Beach; authorities have linked the suspect to a Venezuelan migrant. A second protest outside the ward office is planned.
