After back surgery, Johnson reportedly suffered from poor post-operative care, including being left unattended in unsanitary conditions, which her family believes caused a severe infection. Despite the hospital's statement of commitment to working with the family, the family's attorney criticized Texas's cap on noneconomic damages for medical negligence and emphasized the family's desire to prevent such incidents from happening to others.
