Military veteran Edward Richmond Jr., charged with attacking police officers during the Capitol riot, was ordered released from custody despite a federal prosecutor's argument for pretrial detention due to his criminal history and possession of an AR-15 rifle. Richmond, convicted of manslaughter for fatally shooting a handcuffed civilian in Iraq, was released by U.S. Magistrate Judge Erin Wilder-Doomes, who cited his community ties and role as a father.
