Telecom Company Sued by 49 State AGs Over Billions of Robocalls

Attorneys general from multiple states have filed a lawsuit against Avid Telecom, its owner, and vice president, alleging that the company made 7.5 billion illegal robocalls to people on the Do Not Call Registry. The lawsuit seeks a jury trial to determine damages and claims that Avid Telecom violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Telemarketing Sales Rule, and other federal and state telemarketing and consumer laws. The company allegedly used spoofed or invalid caller ID numbers, including those appearing to be from government and law enforcement agencies and private companies. The lawsuit is part of the nationwide Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force of 51 attorneys general and the District of Columbia.
