"Mother sues poultry plant over 16-year-old son's preventable workplace death"

Edilma Perez Ramirez, the mother of a 16-year-old who died in a workplace accident at a Mississippi poultry factory, is suing the companies that hired and employed him, alleging they failed to follow safety standards that could have prevented his death. The lawsuit follows a report by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration that declared numerous safety violations related to the teenager's death. The lawsuit also alleges that the company allowed the minor to clean equipment despite his age and improper training. The staffing agency that assigned the minor to work at the plant is also being sued for allegedly knowing he was a minor and for attempting to avoid paying worker's compensation after his death.
