"Chicago Police Superintendent Search Narrows to Six Semifinalists"

Six candidates have advanced to the background check phase in the search for Chicago's next police superintendent. The candidates include five department veterans and an outsider who previously worked for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability, responsible for the search, aims to deliver three finalists to Mayor Brandon Johnson by July 14. Johnson prefers an insider for the role but also wants to keep interim Supt. Fred Waller in place through the summer. The City Council has 60 days to confirm the mayor's choice once it is made.
