North Korea has publicly acknowledged that US Army soldier Travis King crossed into North Korea intentionally, citing "inhuman maltreatment and racial discrimination within the US Army" as his motivation. King, who crossed the border while on a civilian tour of the Joint Security Area, expressed his willingness to seek refuge in North Korea or a third country. North Korean investigators have concluded that King crossed deliberately and illegally with the intent to stay in North Korea or another country.
