New Mexico bridge sinkhole damages assessed, pedestrians rescued.

A sidewalk sinkhole on a bridge in New Mexico resulted in the rescue of two pedestrians. The Main Street bridge over the Rio Grande remains closed due to the sinkhole under a sidewalk on the east side of the bridge. Culverts nearby undermined the roadway, causing some areas to erode. The extent of the culvert damage is being assessed, and a water line had to be shut off to prevent more problems if a pipe running through the sinkhole broke.
