Texas DPS and Nonprofit Clash Over Cutting Razor Wire at Texas Border

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers have been cutting razor wire fencing installed by the state at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to DPS Director Col. Steve McCraw. The troopers claim they do so to rescue individuals in danger or apprehend suspects involved in crimes. This comes after federal border agents were accused of illegally destroying state property by cutting the fencing. A federal judge has temporarily barred border patrol agents from damaging or removing the razor wire, except in cases of medical emergencies. Critics argue that the actions of state troopers are no different from those of border patrol agents, while supporters claim that the federal government has failed to secure the border.
