"Immigration Attorney Exposes Texas' Harsh and Cruel Family Separation Policy at the Border"

Texas has separated at least 26 migrant family units at the southern border since July 10 under Governor Greg Abbott's Operation Lone Star border initiative, according to an immigration attorney. The majority of the clients were Venezuelan asylum seekers who were hoping to turn themselves in to US immigration authorities but were instead waived by Texas Department of Public Safety state troopers to areas where they were rounded up and separated. Unlike the family separations under the Trump administration, Texas is taking men away from their families. The troopers are arresting the fathers for criminal trespass, while the mothers and children are turned over to US Border Patrol agents. The state's actions have caused confusion and concern among the separated families, who have little or no way to communicate with each other. Despite the arrests, the separated families can continue their asylum process under federal law. The Biden administration has expressed concerns about Abbott's measures along the Texas-Mexico border.
