Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day: What's Open and Closed

Americans celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day and Columbus Day on the second Monday of October. While some states officially celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day, others commemorate it through proclamations. More than 100 cities have replaced Columbus Day altogether with the holiday. On this day, the Federal Reserve is closed, but markets will be open. Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Citibank branches will be closed, while Chase Bank and TD Bank will be open. The United States Postal Service will be closed, but UPS and FedEx will mostly operate as usual. Most big box retailers will be open, but government buildings such as the DMV, libraries, courts, and offices will be closed.
