Caroline Kennedy Honors JFK's Heroic WWII Swim

Caroline Kennedy, the US ambassador to Australia and daughter of former US President John F. Kennedy, recreated a portion of her father's heroic World War II swim by swimming about three quarters of a mile between two islands in the Solomon Islands. Kennedy's father, as the commander of PT-109, swam to save the crew of his torpedo boat that had been destroyed by a Japanese warship. The swim gave Caroline Kennedy a renewed appreciation for her father's heroism, and she was accompanied by her son, Jack Schlossberg. Kennedy's swim between the islands of Olasana and Naru, which her father made multiple times, honored his perseverance and leadership.
