Raccoon euthanized after being kissed by customers at Maine pet store

A raccoon brought to a pet store in Maine for a nail trim was euthanized and tested negative for rabies after customers kissed it, potentially exposing them to the virus. It is illegal to possess wildlife in Maine, and raccoons are one of the most common carriers of rabies in the state. The raccoon did not have rabies, but officials reminded residents not to handle, feed or attempt to move a wild animal.
