Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Accused of Wrongfully Taking Home Birth Child

Texas parents Temecia and Rodney Jackson allege that their child was wrongfully taken by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services after their pediatrician reported them for treating their days-old child at home for jaundice. The Jacksons had a home birth and their midwife said that there were no signs of jaundice within the first 24 hours. The pediatrician contacted authorities after a bilirubin test showed high levels, which can lead to brain damage. The Jacksons' older children have not been removed from the home. The family's hearing has been postponed to April 20.
