"Is Free Lunch Coming to All RI Public Schools Sooner Than Expected?"

Rhode Island is considering providing free lunch for all public school students, following the expiration of federal emergency funding and waivers. The state Senate previously voted in favor of funding school meals not covered by the federal government, but the estimated cost of $40 million was not included in the governor's budget. Currently, only a few districts continue the free meal program post-pandemic. A bill has been introduced to make lunch and breakfast free for all students, regardless of household income.
