GOP Plans Budget Cuts to UW System Amid Campus Diversity Debate

Republicans plan to cut the budget for the University of Wisconsin System by $32 million over the next two years, with the aim of dismantling campus diversity offices and programming. The proposed cut comes on top of a projected $60 million deficit by the end of 2023-24, according to UW System figures. Gov. Tony Evers called the cuts "disastrous," while Sen. Kelda Roys, D-Madison, said Republicans slashing UW System funding is nothing new and Wisconsin loses out when politicians punish the biggest economic engine of the state.
