Court upholds non-discriminatory admissions policy at elite Virginia high school.

The US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit has ruled that the admissions process at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia did not discriminate against Asian American students. The school had replaced the admissions exam with an essay and began admitting students from a cross-section of schools, with weight given to poorer students and those learning English. The case could be a test of “race-neutral” admissions policies and may be appealed to the US Supreme Court.
