California School District Settles Lawsuit for $2.25M Over Teacher's Pregnancy with Student

A California school district, Redlands Unified, has agreed to pay $2.25 million to settle a lawsuit involving a former teacher, Laura Whitehurst, who became pregnant by one of her students. This brings the total amount paid by the district to Whitehurst's victims to $8.25 million. Whitehurst, who pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with three former students, served six months in jail and registered as a sex offender. The latest lawsuit was filed by a former student who alleged he was sexually abused by Whitehurst in 2007 and 2008 when he was 14.
