"Brockton School Committee Requests National Guard Assistance to Address High School Violence"

Four Brockton School Committee members have requested the deployment of the National Guard at Brockton High School due to a rise in violent incidents and drug use, as well as staffing shortages. The mayor responded that only Gov. Maura Healey has the authority to activate the National Guard and expressed his lack of support for the deployment. A city councilor suggested forming a committee of teachers to address the issues, while a spokesperson for Healey stated that they are in contact with Brockton officials regarding the school's problems. The school, which has the highest student enrollment in Massachusetts, is also facing a significant budget deficit.
