Massive 5-Alarm Fire Engulfs Queens Apartment Building, Injuring 14 and Displacing Hundreds

A five-alarm fire broke out in a six-story residential building in Sunnyside, Queens, displacing over 450 residents. The fire started on the top floor and quickly spread to three of the four wings of the building. More than 130 firefighters responded to the scene, and while there were 14 reported injuries, none were life-threatening. The Red Cross has registered 68 households for emergency assistance, but many of the damaged apartments will be off-limits for an extended period. The affected residents, many of whom are working-class families without renters insurance, face significant challenges during the holiday season.
