"Tragic Shootout in Syracuse Suburb Claims Lives of Two Officers"

Syracuse police officer Michael E. Jensen and Onondaga County sheriff’s deputy Lt. Michael Hoosock were killed in a shootout with suspect Christopher R. Murphy in Salina. The incident began with a traffic stop and escalated into a gunfight, resulting in the deaths of the officers and the suspect. Hoosock, a 16-year veteran, was a bomb squad commander and had experience as a firefighter and paramedic, leaving behind a wife and three young children. Jensen, with 2 1/2 years on the force, was described as ambitious and hard-working. The shooter, Murphy, was armed with a Springfield AR-15 gun and was killed in the exchange of gunfire.
