Tragic Loss: Indiana Deputy Fatally Attacked by Inmate in Transport Van

Marion County Sheriff's Deputy John Durm, a 38-year veteran of the department, was assaulted and killed by an inmate, Orlando Mitchell, in a transport van at the Adult Detention Center in Indianapolis. Mitchell then stole the van and crashed it before being apprehended. The incident is being investigated as an intentional act of homicide. Durm's death follows the recent fatal shooting of Tell City Sgt. Heather Glenn by a man suspected of domestic violence.
