Retired MDPD Lieutenant Faces Attempted Murder Charges in Boyfriend Shooting and Standoff

A retired police lieutenant, Evelyn Fernandez, appeared in bond court after allegedly shooting at her ex-boyfriend in southwest Miami-Dade. No injuries were reported, but Fernandez's attorney argued for a bond reduction, claiming there was no evidence of attempted murder. State prosecutors argued that Fernandez had probable cause for attempted murder after she allegedly fired several rounds at her ex-boyfriend's vehicle while asking, "Do you want me to shoot you?" Fernandez barricaded herself in an attic during a standoff with police, where shots were fired. She faces charges including attempted first-degree murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and resisting an officer with violence.
