Police Officer Kills Man in Weldon Spring Shooting

A St. Charles County police officer fatally shot Tracy E. Hayes, 40, after he pulled a gun while running from officers early Monday. Hayes had violated his probation in a 2021 weapons case in Lincoln County. The officer who fired the shot is 23 years old and has been with the department for two years. The St. Charles County Critical Incident Response Team is handling the investigation, and the county prosecutor will decide if the videos from the officers' dashboard cameras and body cameras will be released to the public.
