Otieno's Cause of Death Revealed by Medical Examiner

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled that Irvo Otieno died from "positional and mechanical asphyxia with restraints" and declared his death a homicide. Otieno died last month during an intake process at Central State Hospital, and ten people, including seven Henrico sheriff's deputies and three hospital employees, face second-degree murder charges. In a statement, Otieno's mother called for justice and an end to the brutality faced by the mentally ill.
