Man's daring stunt forces Santa Monica Pier evacuation

The Santa Monica Pier in California was evacuated after a man claiming to have a bomb scaled the Ferris wheel. Crisis negotiators were called to the scene and after about an hour of negotiation, the man was apprehended by police. He was found not to be in possession of any explosive devices. The man appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis, and police do not believe a crime has been committed. Firefighters safely removed stranded riders from the Ferris wheel after the situation was resolved. No injuries were reported.
