Indian Official Accused of Plotting Assassination of Sikh Separatist Leader in New York

The US has unsealed charges against an Indian national, Nikhil Gupta, accusing him of being part of a $100,000 plot to assassinate Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York City. The plot was allegedly directed by an Indian government official, referred to as "CC-1" in the indictment, who recruited Gupta to orchestrate the assassination. The US Drug Enforcement Administration intervened and stopped the plot. The White House has expressed concern and engaged in direct conversations with the Indian government, emphasizing the need for investigation and accountability. The Indian government has formed a high-level inquiry committee to examine the matter.
