Imposter posing as Marine sentenced to 6 years in prison.

Sarah Jane Cavanaugh, a Rhode Island woman who posed as a wounded Marine veteran to collect hundreds of thousands of dollars in benefits and charitable contributions, has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison. Cavanaugh, who never served in the military, claimed to be a Purple Heart and Bronze Star-decorated Marine who had been wounded by an IED in Iraq and developed service-related cancer. She was caught after an investigation was launched by the Providence Veteran's Association, and has been ordered to pay back the $284,796.82 she fraudulently obtained.
