Former Omaha City Councilmember Vinny Palermo Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud Charge in Corruption Case

Former Omaha Councilman Vinny Palermo has pleaded guilty to a wire fraud charge in a corruption case involving funds from two local nonprofits. In exchange for the plea, the rest of his charges, including conspiracy to commit honest services fraud and bank fraud, would be dismissed. Palermo used his position as a councilmember to obtain grants and permits for the police athletic department nonprofit in exchange for personal benefits. The judge recommended accepting the plea deal, and if accepted, Palermo would serve a total of 21 months in prison. He would also become a convicted felon, losing certain rights. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 16.
