Foiled Plot to Assassinate U.S. Citizen in NYC Leads to Charges: U.S. Attorney

Indian national Nikhil Gupta has been charged with murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in connection with a foiled plot to assassinate a U.S. citizen in New York City. Gupta, an associate of an Indian government employee, allegedly orchestrated the plot to kill an attorney and political activist who advocates for the establishment of a sovereign state for Sikhs in India. The Indian government employee directed the plot from India, recruiting Gupta to contract a hitman. However, the hitman turned out to be an undercover DEA officer. Gupta is currently detained in the Czech Republic, awaiting extradition to the United States.
