Elderly Man Targeted in Unprovoked Subway Attack: Police Investigate

A 74-year-old man was randomly shoved onto the subway tracks in Manhattan's Upper East Side by a homeless man muttering to himself. The victim, who suffered multiple injuries including rib and pelvic injuries, was accused of staring at the attacker before being pushed. The incident was captured on video, and while it does not match any pattern, similar incidents involving a homeless man in the neighborhood are being investigated. So far this year, ten people have been pushed onto subway tracks, a decrease from last year. Mayor Eric Adams has implemented a strategy to address homelessness and mental health issues by involuntarily taking individuals who appear to be mentally ill and a danger to themselves into custody for psychiatric evaluations.
