"Deceased Virginia Fisherman Identified as Suspect in 1980s Cold-Case Murders"

Virginia State Police identified deceased fisherman Alan W. Wilmer Sr. as the prime suspect in three cold-case killings, including the 1987 shooting deaths of David L. Knobling and Robin M. Edwards, and the 1989 strangulation of Teresa Lynn Spaw Howell, through DNA evidence. If alive, charges would be filed against him. The cases are not linked to the Colonial Parkway Murders, and investigations remain active. Wilmer's DNA also tied him to Howell's killing. Police are examining his possible ties to additional cases and appealing to the public for information.
