Decades-old murder victims finally identified in Georgia

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has identified human remains found in a dumpster in Jenkins County in 1988 as those of Chong Un Kim, a 26-year-old woman from Hinesville, Georgia. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation, and the GBI is seeking information from the public to help solve the cold case. Advances in DNA testing technology allowed the GBI to work with a forensic genomics company, Othram, to produce investigative leads through genealogical search. Kim's family was notified of the identification in October 2023.
