Capitol Rioter Sentenced to Over 3 Years for Attempted Murder Charge

Matthew Jason Beddingfield, a man who stormed the U.S. Capitol while awaiting trial for attempted murder, has been sentenced to over three years in prison for attacking police officers with a flagpole during the riot. Beddingfield, who was free on pretrial release, flashed a Nazi-style salute and joined other rioters in attacking police officers. He pleaded guilty to assaulting, resisting, or impeding police and will serve three years and two months in prison followed by two years of supervised release. Beddingfield had also previously pleaded guilty to an assault charge for shooting a teenager in a Walmart parking lot.
