Bystanders Rescue California Highway Patrol Officer from Brutal Attack

A California Highway Patrol officer was attacked by a pedestrian on the side of a busy freeway offramp in Santa Ana. The attacker knocked the officer to the ground and began to pummel him before three Good Samaritans rushed to his rescue. The incident was captured on a cellphone. The attacker, identified as Jaime Paniagua, was taken into custody and faces multiple charges. The officer was taken to the hospital and released without serious injuries.
