"Foreign Exchange Student Rescued from 'Cyber Kidnapping' Near Brigham City"

Kai Zhuang, a 17-year-old Chinese foreign exchange student, was found safe near Brigham City, Utah, after being reported kidnapped on December 28. His family in China had received a ransom demand and transferred $80,000 to the kidnappers. Zhuang was a victim of "cyber kidnapping," a scheme where kidnappers manipulate students into isolating themselves and convincing their families they are in danger. Riverdale Police, the FBI, and other agencies were involved in the search, which concluded with Zhuang being found in a tent, cold and scared but unharmed. Authorities advise against paying cyber kidnappers and recommend contacting the police immediately.
