A California couple and their two-year-old daughter survived a small plane crash in Whitethorn after losing engine power and deploying the aircraft’s parachute to slow their descent, escaping with only minor cuts and scratches. The pilot noticed the low altitude and deployed the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System as a last-resort effort, with fire officials stating that their chances of survival without the parachute were slim. The family, who resides in Santa Rosa, was able to exit the plane on their own before first responders arrived, and photos show the wrecked plane with its parachute snagged in the branches.
