Rabies Outbreak in North Georgia County Leads to Euthanization of 18 Cats

Habersham County officials in Georgia euthanized 18 cats, including a stray that tested positive for rabies, after a concerned citizen reported an aggressive cat. Animal control officials found a colony of unvaccinated cats that had not been fixed and many feeding stations throughout the property. The resident told authorities that the cats were being fed on the property and had been unmanaged for over two years. The risk to human safety and the safety of all animals led to the decision to euthanize all unvaccinated free-roaming cats on the property, including kittens.
