Rabid bat discovered in Woodstock home, family exposed.

A family in Woodstock was recommended to undergo postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) treatment after being possibly exposed to a rabid bat found in their home. The McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) said that rabies in Illinois is primarily contracted from bats. The MCDH recommends that residents who find a bat in their home contain it in a room by closing the door or placing a blanket on it and notify the MCDH Animal Control. Residents should not touch, feed or unintentionally attract wild animals with open garbage cans or litter.
