Rabid Coyote Attacks in Rhode Island Confirmed

A coyote that attacked two men in Johnston and Scituate, Rhode Island, last week was found to have rabies, according to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM). State health officials are urging anyone who may have had contact with the coyote to seek treatment, and pet owners in the affected communities are advised to ensure their pets' rabies vaccinations are up to date. Additionally, recommendations to prevent rabies include vaccinating pets, avoiding contact with wild animals, and reporting all animal bites to local animal control officers.
