Young Reno Native Achieves Double Publication and Secures Coveted NIH Fellowship

Riley Gillis, a 19-year-old Reno native and University of Nevada, Reno Honors Student, has been awarded the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) fellowship after having two research manuscripts published. The fellowship provides financial support for undergraduate students to conduct biomedical research and pursue graduate-level degrees. Gillis, who has already published a peer-reviewed research paper on obesity comorbidities and has another manuscript on Ebola prevention forthcoming, aims to pursue an MD-PhD and contribute to public health solutions for global disease control.
