The virus could have been easily prevented with a routine vaccine, leading to concerns about mistreatment or neglect by the owner. The Montgomery County Cat Coalition is working to rescue and find homes for the abandoned cats, while also investigating the situation with the help of local authorities. The public is urged to report any sightings of abandoned Himalayan cats and to consider volunteering or adopting other rescue cats.
