"Friends' Heroic Battle: Cyclist Saved from Cougar Attack"

A group of competitive female cyclists in Washington state were attacked by two cougars while on a biking trail, with one of the cougars mauling and pinning down cyclist Keri Bergere. Bergere's friends, also cyclists, fought off the cougar for 45 minutes using sticks and a rock, eventually pinning it down under a bike until wildlife officers arrived and shot it. Bergere sustained severe face and neck injuries but survived, and the women described their friends' actions as heroic.
