Emmys Reject Category Change for 'Schmigadoon!' and Question Lead Actor Eligibility in 'Jury Duty' Submission

The Television Academy has denied Apple's petition to move "Schmigadoon!" from the comedy series category to the scripted variety category for the upcoming Emmy Awards. The scripted variety category is defined as shows that are primarily scripted or loosely-scripted improv with discrete scenes, satire, musical numbers, monologues, comedy stand-ups, sketches, etc. "Schmigadoon!" has ongoing story elements and recurring characters, making it more suitable for the comedy series category. The show will have to compete for one of the eight spots in outstanding comedy series, where two other Apple series, "Ted Lasso" and "Shrinking," are already competing. Emmy submissions are due on May 9.
