Rikkie Valerie Kollé has made history by becoming the first transgender woman to be crowned Miss Netherlands. The 22-year-old aims to be a voice and role model for young women and queer people, drawing from her own experiences of feeling alone and struggling during her transition. Kollé, who works as a content creator and model, will now compete in the global round of the pageant, with the opportunity to become the first transgender Miss Universe. The Miss Universe competition, recently acquired by transgender activist Chakrapong "Anne" Chakrajutathib, has allowed transgender participation since 2012.
