Legendary 'Fiddler on the Roof' Lyricist Sheldon Harnick Passes Away at 99

Sheldon Harnick, the Tony Award-winning lyricist who collaborated with composer Jerry Bock to create some of Broadway's most memorable musicals, including "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Fiorello!," has died at the age of 99. Harnick's lyrics gave voice to a broad range of characters and emotions, from starry-eyed young lovers to struggling Jews in early-20th-century Russia. "Fiddler on the Roof" became the longest-running musical in Broadway history and won nine Tony Awards, including one for its score. Harnick also worked on other shows and became an accomplished opera translator and librettist.
