Anne Perry, Crime Writer and Former Murderer, Passes Away at 84

Crime writer Anne Perry, who served five years in prison for bludgeoning her friend's mother to death as a teenager, has died aged 84. Perry, who was the inspiration for Peter Jackson's 1994 film Heavenly Creatures, went on to have a successful writing career under the pen name Anne Perry. Her novels, which included multiple series such as the Thomas Pitt detective novels, sold 25 million copies worldwide. Perry's agent said her writing was driven by her commitment to raising awareness around social injustice.
